THE SHOWROOM is thrilled to introduce the works of Amir Jahics and Comenius Rothlisbergers, better known as The Invisible Heroes. Our clever 'heroes' have developed a provocative translation of one of the most popular and controversial virtual trends of this decade, You Tube. Using colored pencil, the artists have rendered freeze-frame drawings (measuring 21"x30") complete with logo, video title, user ratings, and number of views. The resulting collection is a humorous and straightforward chronicle highlighting the most watched social and political videos on You Tube.
Whether random or serious, these little drawings begin to define what we, the participants and viewers, consider to be important or worthwhile accounts of our news and culture. Perhaps the artists suggest the viewer ask, "Are we tuned in or are we tuned out?". Does a selected 2:36 video clip of a soldier's experience give us unbiased perspective or does it simply promote someone's propaganda? And are we truly entertained by the much-viewed pudgy Star Wars kid or are we just so easily amused that the thriving local comedy club is now a rarity? Our 'heroes' leave it up to you to decide. Regardless, these drawings are very cool and no doubt there are more than a few artists bummed that they didn't think of it first!
Admir and Comenius are well-known for their conceptual installations based on repetition and social and economic commentary. The artists currently live and work in Basel, Switzerland. They exhibit individually and as The Invisible Heroes worldwide.
