The Opening Reception took place on Sunday, September 20, to celebrate the International Day of Peace – a global holiday set aside on September 21, when individuals, communities, nations and governments highlight efforts to end conflict and promote peace. Dr. M. Darrol Bryant, Professor of Religion and Culture at the University of Waterloo, delivered opening remarks and Mayor Mike MacEachern presented a Proclamation of Peace on behalf of the Town of New Tecumseth.
September 20 also marks the launch of DAREarts Foundation's 'Centipede Children for Peace' Card Project, a program dedicated to assisting children in war-torn countries. Marilyn Field, Founder of DAREarts, will be on hand to provide an overview of the project. On September 21st, many schools are taking up the DAREarts challenge to create their ‘Children for Peace' cards in their schools. Imagine the positive energy created if all of the students across the entire area take an hour of their day to each create a card to help a child affected by wars, altogether on September 21st! The one-of-a-kind cards will be on display and may be purchased at the Gibson Centre for a $5 donation per card.
