Erickson says, "'Poppy Field' is an oil on canvas landscape painting measuring 36 x 42 inches. I painted this floral landscape simply because of its beauty - the red flowers amongst the blowing grasses underneath a vast sky with interesting cloud patterns. You may have noticed poppies in other paintings throughout history where the red flower has particular meaning. The symbolism of the poppy is quite interesting covering sleep and dreams to sacrifice. For me they are an elegant flower just asking to be painted. I spent close to two months painting this landscape. It was worked up from a detailed drawing to an equally detailed underpainting before the final, multiple layers of color glazes were applied. This process, similar to that of the Old Masters, gives the piece a lovely glow and depth of color."
