‘GenNext’- the annual show of the Aakriti Art Gallery, Kolkata has taken the shape of a global phenomenon and revolutionized the concept of endorsing young generation artists as a whole within such a shot span of time. This year in the month of October, Aakriti is celebrating its fourth anniversary as GenNext IV enlightening the entire discourse once again in a novel dimension.
GenNext was conceived with the exclusive idea of promoting young artists below forty years of age with a modernization in the concept of curatorial venture that also formulated a big change in the approach to the way of looking at art. The first GenNext that was initiated in 2006 as the first anniversary celebration of the Aakriti Art Gallery, the foundation was led by the commitment to promote young talent and project their works. Though the first year of Gen Next remained within the realm of a regional show, the Gen Next II expanded to the national level and the third show led the city as the most happening spot of promoting art; thus evolving a new wave in the art world. In 2008, the third Gen Next was an elaborative effort to profoundly bring in the young artists from different corners of the world to react on a single platform. Gen Next III reached out to the art lovers as the most effervescent experience in the medley of expressions with innovation, experimentation and freshness. GenNext IV is going to be far more vibrant with pulsating spirit to enrich the art world.
Around six hundred plus entries from artists across the globe had been received and after a rigorous grueling of their creative effort, finally thirty four have been selected to participate in this enthralling platform. The selected artists are Aharon Rothschilel (USA), Amit Kumar Debnath (Kolkata), Atul Mahajan (Baroda), Barun Pramanik (Kolkata), Debasish Datta (Baroda), Debasish Sarkar (Kolkata), Dipta Bhattacharya (Kolkata), Huma Mulji (Pakistan), Jaishri Abichandani (USA), Kondor Valeria (Hungary), Mansoor Ali (Baroda), Mantu Das (Assam), Nabanita Dutta Guha (Kolkata), Nantu Behari Das (Kolkata), Oli Ghosh (Mumbai), Paltu Barman (Tripura), Partha Guin (Bardhaman), Piyali Sadhukhan (Kolkata), Prafull Singh (Mumbai), Prandeep Kalita (Assam), Priti Kahar (Baroda), Priyanka Lahiri (Howrah), Pramod Kumar Singh (Mumbai), Punyo Chobin (Arunachal Pradesh), Romicon Revola (Bangalore), Ruth Avra Kleinman & Dana Lynn Kleinman (KX2) (USA), Sagar Bhowmik (Kolkata), Sanhita Banerjee (Kolkata), Siraj Saxena (Delhi), Soma Das (Kolkata), Sujit Karmakar (Kolkata), Sukanya Ghosh (Kolkata), Tushar Kanti Pradhan (Kolkata) and Youn MiOck (South Korea).
Gen Next IV is ready in its exuberant style to stimulate a new dimension in the discovery of next generation artists. The formal inauguration of Gen Next IV is scheduled on October 1, 2009. A series of Symposium will be organized at Emami Chisel Art, Kolkata on October 2 -3, 2009 on issues like globalization and art with different sub-themes. The show will remain open till October 15, 2009 at the Aakriti Art Gallery. And we all wait anxiously for the moment to unveil the creative journey of the new generation artists with fresh hopes and more expectations.
