Films screened will reflect both documentary and non-narrative subjects and use intricate sound and visual imagery to express the filmmaker’s point of view and emotions. This ain’t no TRANSFORMER 2. Deep movies for deep thinkers. Ben Balcom- Hampshire College fostered his interests in filmmaking, literature and philosophy. His culminative thesis project was a 33 minute, three part handprocessed film that explored the functions of formal, emotional, and political filmmaking through various devices of narrative and abstraction. After graduating he lived in Northampton, MA for a year and continued to work on creating systems of visual poetry and mythology through the super-8 and 16mm film mediums. Before his departure he was awarded a grant from the Northampton Arts Council for his upcoming film project we are the multitudes, which will be screened in Northampton June 2010. Joshua Frederic Weissbach - Weissbach received his Bachelor of Arts in Film Production from Hampshire College in May 2009. He was also the recipient of the 2008 Cary Grant Film Award and a 2008 Princess Grace Undergraduate Film Scholarship, both from the Princess Grace Foundation – USA, which aided in the production of his most recent film interiors of the liquid gap. He also received 2006 and 2009 Hampshire Independent Productions Grants, and a 2009 Tom Joslin Fund Grant. Weissbach’s work has been screened domestically and internationally at 2004 Northampton Independent Film Festival where he won Best Film of Five College Area, 2006 Antimatter Underground Film Festival, 2008 Museum Fundación Curros Enríquez, 2009 Hinterland Film Festival, 2008/2009 Five College Student Film and Video Festival, 2005/2006 Hygienic Film Festival, 2008 Montague Phantom Brain Exchange, and 2006/2007 No Festival Required Microcinema. He has also shown his film and photo work at collaborative art showcases in Western Massachusetts, and Outono Fotográfico: Ateneo de Ourense in Ourense, Spain.
