Join us for two new episodes of the acclaimed PBS series Art:21. FREE!
Episode 3, Transformation: Yinka Shonibare MBE, Cindy Sherman, Paul McCarthy Whether observing and satirizing society or reinventing icons of literature, art history, and popular culture, the artists featured in Transformation capture the sensibilities of our age while at times inhabiting the characters they have created.
Episode 4, Systems: Julie Mehretu, John Baldessari, Kimsooja, Allan McCollum
Systems features artists who realize complex projects through acts of appropriation or accumulation. In some instances, they create projects vast in scope, which almost elude comprehension.
This event is part of Art21 Access '09, a celebration of contemporary art, and Season 5 of Art:21-Art in the Twenty-First Century, sponsored by Art21. Art21 Access '09 is held at over 300 museums, schools, libraries, art spaces, and community centers and is organized in collaboration with Americans for the Arts' National Arts and Humanities Month.

We are very pleased to announce that the Contemporary has been awarded a $40,000 grant from the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation in support of our 2010 education programs. In particular, these funds will enable us to produce a comprehensive book that examines ways that contemporary artists can empower their creative lives and careers. It will bring together advice, questions, projects, and commentary by distinguished arts professionals who have contributed to our Artist Survival Skills series of lectures, panels, and workshops.
Upcoming Artist Survival Skills speakers include: Jackie Battenfield, Barry Blinderman, Richard Flood, David Humphrey, and Mira Schor.

The National Black Arts Festival media team established a livestream site for last Friday's installment of The 15 Project. You never know what will happen on Fahamu Pecou's talk show - a Halloween song, a critique of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and a surprise wedding proposal that brought the crowd to its feet.
