Play is the thing in this new and innovative production of Hamlet. Denmark revels in a rotten kingdom of vaudevillian spectacle, while its Prince confronts his traitorous mother, a double-dealing uncle, and the ghost who wants them dead. A fearless young cast provides raw violence and cocktail waitresses all while upholding the Bard's pentameter. Featuring parkour acrobatics, bold design, and a heart-pounding original score, this Hamlet promises to surprise on every level.

In October, Brad Wells will lead the vocal octet Roomful of Teeth in their New York debut, performing works by New Amsterdam co-director Judd Greenstein and Pulitzer-Prize finalist Rinde Eckert, among others. Formed in 2008 and coming off a recent residency at Mass MoCA, the group embraces the full spectrum of vocal practices and, through an on-going commissioning project, develops new compositions for voices. Their current repertoire includes works that explore techniques such as belting, yodeling and Tuvan throat singing. Also performing will be the flute/percussion duo, Due East (Greg Beyer, Erin Lesser), who will present John Supko's epic Littoral with video by Kristine Marx. and the NYC premiere of David Lang's Lend/Lease. Supko's Littoral, for flute, percussion and computer sounds, on texts of Cees Nooteboom and Richard Hakluyt, is, according to the composer, “music of shifting terrains, each with its distinct sense of time and color and space...more alluring than any destination plotted on a timeable.”
