"Parallel Worlds : Solo Exhibition by Joanna Borkowska"
2009-10-23 until 2009-11-22
Muzeum Narodowe w Szczecinie
Szczecin, , PL Poland

The National Museum in Szczecin will present PARALLEL WORLDS, Joanna Borkowskas debut exhibition. The exhibition features twenty paintings that present and explore the worlds we navigate throughout our lives. Joanna Borkowskas sensitivity to colors and symbolism are the sources of her creative energy and vision. Bold use of colors dominates her work, demanding the viewers attention, delighting and hypnotizing. The harmony, order and clarity of her compositions jointly forge the character of her canvases. The subtle, yet consistent, language of Ms. Borkowskas style reflects an inner discipline that provokes a gaze that leads one to her intimate contemplative world, which offers a sense of inner peace and an opportunity for metaphysical reflection. Joanna Borkowska has been a Premiere Portfolio Artist at absolutearts.com since July 2009.

Ms. Borkowska writes that the creative process is a collaborative effort, but the artist is responsible for the ultimate outcome. I work in a partnership with Nature in order to prepare a space in which I can establish contact with the essence of a form - either from the material world or the world of ideas. A painting gradually evolves from the mutual discovery and exploration between the artist and this form; it is a reflection of this dynamic. The resulting piece of art develops its own independent existence, becoming a new form creating a potentially infinite number of interactions and interrelations with the viewer.

Joanna Borkowska, born in Poland in 1972, was educated at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, where she earned a doctorate in political science and lectured on the history of political thought and international relations. She wrote her dissertation and published a book on Catharism, a medieval heretical movement, after having conducted research in Montpellier, Carcassonne, Paris and Oxford. In September 2007 she left her academic position in order to create art on a full-time basis. Ms. Borkowska has been intensively painting for ten years, but this is the first occasion to view her work publicly. Part of the collection will be on display at the VII International Biennale of Contemporary Art in Florence from December 5 - 13.
