"Engaging the Figure/Structuring Space: The Body's Authority in 19th Century Art" Sally Webster, Professor of American Art, Emerita at Lehman College and the Graduate Center CUNY, presents a new dialogue about the ambitions of 19th century artists -- Americans trained in Europe, who studied the figure as a tool of compositional design. Learn how these young artists transformed a provincial American school of art into a cosmopolitan one.
