NoshNight: Objectified
Featuring Designer Thomas Overthun

GRAND
RAPIDS, Mich., May 28, 2009 –  After two wildly popular events, the NoshNight series continues to gain momentum. Join us on November 11, from 6-9:30PM, at Wealthy Theatre for NoshNight: Objectified. Featuring a one-time screening of the film Objectified, delicious food by Corez, drinks, an interactive design challenge, and more! Through vérité footage and in-depth conversations, Objectified documents the creative processes of some of the world’s most influential product designers, and looks at how the things they make impact our lives. Following the film, Objectified designer Thomas Overthun will lead a discussion.

Thomas Overthun is Senior Practice Lead in Consumer Experience Design at the renowned international design firm IDEO. Overthun has designed in the areas of contract furniture and seating, kitchen tools and appliances, personal care, sports products and electronics. Overthun’s clients have included Cisco, Steelcase, Zyliss Switzerland, Oral B, P&G, Audible, National Panasonic, and Selle Royal.

NoshNights are a partnership between UICA, AIGA, Design West Michigan, AIA, IDSA, Rapid Growth Media, and the Community Media Center. The inaugural NoshNight: Slide Wars featured 20 artists presenting their work with a series of still images, which rotated on a projector screen in 20-second intervals. Artists were challenged to describe each image in 20 seconds, before the next slide appeared. The event was a success, with over 400 people in attendance. The second installment NoshNight: Recycled Runway presented the innovative designs of 15 artists who created wearable art made from recycled and repurposed materials. The event was even more popular than the first, with an attendance of more than 700 people. The success of these two events demonstrates that there was a need for an event that crossed the boundaries of every creative field.
