PARIS PHOTO, November 18 - 22, 2009
Laurence Miller Gallery, Stand B28, Salle Delorme |
We look forward to exhibiting at Paris Photo and here are some highlights of our presentation.
Ray Metzker's large-scale 1960's composite Hot Diggedy is juxtaposed with a selection of vintage prints from his 1960-61 European road trip, including his 1961 classic Kayak from Frankfurt. Metzker's new monograph, AutoMagic, limited to 500 signed and numbered copies, with introduction by David Travis, will make its international debut at Paris Photo. Contemporary photographer Julie Mack, a finalist in the 2009 BMW Competition at Paris Photo, will be featured. Her bold and colorful portraits, including a nighttime self-portrait seated with her family as seen through the windshield of their new SUV, have received international attention, and they are sure to bring a smile to your face. The late, great Helen Levitt will be represented by an installation of more than twenty early unique "first proofs," many never before offered for sale. A handsome limited-edition catalog, Helen Levitt: A Memorial Tribute, with 78 reproductions, will be hot off the press, and available at our stand. A selection of prints from the 2008 series Case Study Homes by Peter Bialobrzeski will be on display. These intimate color prints strangely echo earlier images by Atget and Evans, and they are as much a statement about self-preservation and survival as they are about vernacular sculpture and architecture. A fine mix of American and European vintage photography will be shown including prints by Harry Callahan, Walker Evans, Robert Frank, Lee Friedlander, Charles Harbutt, Fan Ho and Paul Strand. For those of you who missed our summer show celebrating the Fortieth Anniversary of Woodstock, we will offer both a vintage print and a recent color print of Burk Uzzle's iconic image of the couple embracing in the quilt in the early morning light of Yasgur's farm. It's a rare opportunity to see two radically different views of virtually the same moment by the same photographer. Decisive Moment times 2. Arab and Iranian photography will be the theme of Paris Photo 2009. We are delighted to offer Moroccan artist Lalla Essaydi's Converging Territory #10, a powerful self-portrait considered by many her finest work, its limited edition long sold out. And of course we will install a selection of color works by Bruce Wrighton, the innovative color photographer who, with his 8 x 10" view camera, made powerful images of tavern and church interiors, and the residents, in and around Binghamton, New York in the mid-1980's. We look forward to seeing you in Paris.
