On November 06, Stare Divadlo Karola Spisaka in Nitra will open a solo exhibition of work by the emerging contemporary artist Viliam Sulik. The exhibition will feature acrylic paintings by Sulik, all created in 2008 and 2009. The paintings display his attempt to elaborate a large-scale topic discussing the rational and the emotional in human beings as two intersecting levels. Viliam Sulik has promoted his work with a Portfolio at absolutearts.com since 2008.

Concerned with how craving for power is definitely degrading the essence of any human being or for example whether males weeping is a weakness or an emotional touch, Sulik works exclusivelly with acrylic on canvas. For the project NAUSEA presented at Stare Divadlo Karola Spisaka in Nitra, the artist borrowed from his own environment to build subtle narratives. In this way, canvas became a medium through which he is trying to capture the bipolarity of a decision, reflect fear or doubt of a human being, questions in which borderline situations is certain behaviour still acceptable or even offers us material goods, which also work as pills healing amnesia.
On view through December 18, NAUSEA is, according to wikipedia "a sensation that there is a need to vomit. It is not a sickness, but rather a symptom of several conditions, many of which are not related to the stomach." He began the project in October of 2008, conceiving of it as an ongoing project which would attempt to capture the personal subject during a particular period of time.
ABOUT VILIAM SULIK
Born in 1978 (Surany, Slovakia) Viliam Sulik earned his Master of Arts in Art Teaching in Nitra, Slovakia (2005). He has worked in various mediums such as polystyrene, plastic, wood, metal and plaster in 3D. He is also known for installations, performances, happenings, videos and different art projects involving youth and local artists in Nitra, Slovakia. Viliam Sulik exhibited in both private and public galleries. His works are included in private collections in Slovakia and Germany.
