The centerpiece of the concert is the world premiere of Chaqui Chaqui Bámbula by Francis Schwartz, a longtime composition professor at the University of Puerto Rico and renowned creator of riotous “audience interactive” experiences. Also on the program: Nepomuk’s Dances, a driving, rock-influenced string quartet by Brazilian composer Marcelo Zarvos, better known for his scores to films like The Door in the Floor and Kissing Jessica Stein; Miguel del Aguila’s Salón Buenos Aires, which calls to mind the Latin America of a gentler era, albeit with a little bit of especiar; and Face the Music “standards” Exquisite Corpses and Yo Shakespeare, both “hard-rocking classical” pieces with a strong connection to the city in which we live. Phil Kline, Exquisite Corpses (1997) Michael Gordon, Yo Shakespeare (1992) Miguel del Aguila, ,Salon Buenos Aires: Obsessed Milonga (2005) Marcelo Zarvos, Nepomuk’s Dances: Memory (2002) Francis Schwartz: Chaqui Chaqui Bámbula (2009 – world premiere)
