Indepth Arts News:
"New Work by Krista Buecking"
2009-12-17 until 2010-01-31
Susan Hobbs Gallery
Toronto, ON,
CA Canada
Opening on Thursday, December 17 from 7 - 9 p.m., and continuing through January 30, 2010, the gallery is pleased to present new work by Krista Buecking.
In her first solo exhibition at the Susan Hobbs Gallery, Buecking presents a series of works that evoke a collapse of time, progress, and the hierarchical status of objects and effects. Meticulously rendered in graphite, each pair of drawings - one a rendering of a crumbling brick and the other a sentimental song lyric - generate an ambiguous relationship. Suspended on a blank picture plane, both "fragments" are untethered in a void of space and time, hovering on the brink of oblivion while simultaneously exerting an ominous presence.
Krista Buecking was born in 1982 in Brampton, Ontario, and is a graduate of the University of Guelph‚s Studio Art program. Previously, her work has been included in group exhibitions at the gallery, including düsseldorf contemporary redux (2008) and As it Seems (2007). Her project Love Song For A New Generation was the featured artist project in the Winter 2008 issue of C Magazine, and formed the starting point for this new body of work.
Susan Hobbs Gallery is open to the public Thursday to Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and by appointment. The gallery is located at 137 Tecumseth Street, Toronto.
