"Emily Wardill : Game Keepers Without Game"

This winter Spacex presents a solo exhibition by London based British filmmaker Emily Wardill, one of the UKs most exciting young artists, described by the Guardian as unafraid to put her viewers between a rock and a hard place. With her new work, Game Keepers Without Game, Wardill presents a powerful and contemporary feature length movie that tackles difficult social issues without compromise. The formal structure of the film is based on Pedro Calderon de la Barcas Life is a Dream (La Vida es Suena) that was written in the 17th Century. The script for Wardills new work translates the story into contemporary
London; depicting a child banished from the family home at an early age.
The work, which is set to a complex drumming sound track, comprises of
still shots of objects that become characters; and a mixture of acted
scenes where nothing and nobody touches.
Following its premiere at Spacex this new work will be screened at The
Showroom, London. It will also be included in a major solo show at de
appel, Amsterdam and at MOCA in Miami in December 2009.
London based artist Emily Wardill will be coming to Spacex on Saturday 30
January at 2.30pm, to speak about Game Keepers Without Game. Admission is
free but booking is essential, as this is a very popular event.
