"Call for Artists : CONTINUUM - New commission opportunity for artists working with moving images"

Artists working with moving images are being invited to submit their work for a new commission opportunity at Rugby Art Gallery and Museum. Rugby Art Gallery and Museum, in partnership with Portland Green Cultural Projects, is seeking proposals for a new, artist's moving image work that has been specifically created to be accessed by audiences in multiple spaces - for example, the gallery, cinema, a site-specif ic space, packaged content, or online. The new work is part of a programme of activities in which the partners are engaged in 2010 with the aim of building new audiences for the collection, exhibition and distribution of the artist's moving image in Rugby and beyond.
The new work will have realisable exhibition, dissemination or distribution strategies. To support this, it will be given a public gallery space at Rugby Art Gallery and Museum from 31 August to 31 October 2010. The artist selected will be expected to use the gallery space inventively.
This commission is a key part of a special year-long programme of exhibitions and events demonstrating Rugby Art Gallery and Museum's commitment to commissioning and exhibiting high quality and innovative contemporary art.
Counselor Neil Campbell, Rugby Borough Council portfolio holder for Culture, said: "This project represents an excellent opportunity for innovative artists, and demonstrates Rugby Art Gallery and Museum's commitment to new and challenging forms of art in keeping with the changing technologies now available to so many people."
