EDGE Gallery is pleased to announce the group exhibition -EDGE OF INDONESIA- of a group of 8 very talented Indonesian artists. Opening reception will take place on (Friday) 5 Feb, 2010, 6:00pm - 8:30pm at EDGE Gallery, G/F 60C Leighton Road, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong. Artists included are Putut Wahyu Widodo, Iman Sapari, Ida Bagus Putu Purwa, Hilman Hendarsyah, Heru Dodot Widodo, Bambang Pramudiyanto, Hendra Bayu Hermanto, and Endro.

Both Ida Bagus Putu Purwa and Putut Wahyu Widodo depicts similar concerns pertaining to the change they are experiencing in their country. The artists discuss the issues of social, political, and cultural changes through images of body. human body symbolizes an effort to complete the fragmented junctures in one¡œs life. The body is conceived less as an object but rather as an area, which gives a strong sense of both location and dislocation. With their individual approach, express their thoughts and experiences pertaining to their memory of personal junctures. Iman Sapari's dramatic lighting paintings depict deserted railways stations and highways. The canvases contain an eeriness that is one of the traits of "Hyper-Realism". Heru Dodot Widodo expresses his personal reaction to the current world condition. He explores and analyzes the world through different subjects which include economy, environment, and world domination by super power countries. He tries to give his comments through his paintings and he believes that the current conditions that had happened in this world were mainly caused by decision of either somebody who has strong influence or by some nations that have their own political agenda. The Artist carefully chooses his colors, textures, and media to convey feelings and ideas of how he perceived and experience the world he lives in now. He often uses rustic iron background to reflect the modest and simple neighborhood where he lives and work currently.

As one of the most promising emerging artists, Hendra Bayu Hermanto posses both technique and clear concept in his works. He was inspired to explore the notice boards that are commonly seen at offices or even at our own homes. Through these boards, he takes us to different stories and journeys. Currently, he is working on the "remembering" series, which basically reminding us of people who have influenced and played an important role in the history of mankind. He skillfully adds messages and pictures related to the person he chose to be remembered in his work. It gives his audience the pleasure of finding the unexpected message, drawing, and other things on his notice board.
