Featured artists usually exhibit their work for two months in two- or three-person group shows. Artists are selected by a committee comprising local artists and arts professionals, members of the Chapel Hill Public Arts Commission, and representatives from the Library and Town Hall. North Carolina artists are encouraged to apply but all artists are considered, regardless of residency. For the 2008-2009 Juried Exhibitions Series twenty-five artists were invited to show: 18 artists from North Carolina (12 of these from the Triangle area) and seven from other states. Artistic excellence and the display of a wide!
variety of media and styles are the primary selection criteria.
Hampton Olfus comments about his work: "Art for me is a journey, of a life force expressing it's self through the human experience. Each artist has a vision or personal statement for their artistic journey. My artistic vision, is to be as true,to those who love art, as I I'm to my artistic self. I attempt to transfer the energy of discovery, from the studio to the exhibit space. And I also would like to make the gallery owners happy without the art work becoming, predictable. Too acquire the artistic wisdom of the masters, and remain as fearless as a child, with a box of crayons staring at a blank wall."
