The exhibition closes April 18. Please note that the Museum will not be open Sunday, April 4.

A perfect Sunday activity! Have fun with the creative learning opportunities for all ages held in conjunction with the groundbreaking exhibition, Sewell Sillman: Pushing Limits.
A perfect Sunday activity! Have fun with the creative learning opportunities for all ages held in conjunction with the groundbreaking exhibition, Sewell Sillman: Pushing Limits.

Over the series of Sundays (except for April 4 when the Museum is closed) visitors of all ages can try their hand at a number of art "problems" taught by Albers and Sillman at such prestigious institutions such as Yale University, the RISD, and the University of Pennsylvania. Considered radical for the time, these concepts are now the accepted basis for color and art theory today. Read more

Make-a-Painting Sundays

Painters are given brushes, palette, paint, canvas, and a smock and are sent to paint down by the river or in Miss Florence's garden.

Invite family and friends and help us spread the word about this popular hands-on program! Sunday visitors can drop into the Hartman Education Center and pick up all the supplies needed to make a painting on the grounds of the Museum. All ages and skill levels welcome. There are also hands-on art projects, books, games and puzzles to enjoy. A great way to spend the day. Program continues through November.

Museum Hosts Series

Connecticut Landmarks presents the award-winning 2010 Collectors & Explorers Lecture Series, The Inspired Landscape. This year's series consists of four lectures presented at two locations over four weeks: Tuesday, April 6, 13, 20, 27 at 5:30 pm at the Connecticut Historical Society in Hartford, and on Thursday, April 8, 15, 22, 29 at 2:00 pm at the Florence Griswold Museum. Presenters include: environmental attorney, activist and author Russell Brenneman; Visiting Wesleyan University Scholar, geologist and author Peter LeTourneau, Ph.D; Connecticut landscape artist Jan Blencowe; and essayist and poet David Leff.

Admission for each lecture is $15 or $12 for members of Connecticut Landmarks, Connecticut Forest & Park Association, Connecticut Historical Society and the Florence Griswold Museum. Whether you doodle, scribble, or sketch, the art of drawing is about expressing thoughts and feelings in line and shade. Draw On! is a community festival organized by the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum that brings together people of all ages through the simple act of drawing. Visitors explore the world of drawing through a series of “creation stations” that encourage experimentation with a variety of materials, techniques, and styles. Read more...
