Björn Dahlem     Özlem Altin / Carlotta Sennato   a cura di Francesca Boenzi   opening 25 marzo 2010 ore 19.00 Napoli, Fondazione Morra Greco Largo Avellino, 17   In occasione della mostra Björn Dahlem realizzerà una nuova installazione, al piano terra della Fondazione, intitolata Buco Nero (M-Sfere). L’installazione si riferisce alle orbite delle stelle intorno ai buchi neri, visualizzate attraverso una serie di anelli in legno che si intersecano e  che contengono fonti luminose di diverso tipo.  Al primo piano della Fondazione l’artista presenta Aua Extrema (2001) e Das De-Sitter-Sanatorium (2000), due installazioni già parte della collezione della Fondazione. Aua extrema è una sorta di scenario alchemico in cui elementi diversi, che fanno riferimento tanto al mondo della scienza quanto a quello dell’arte e della cultura in generale, convivono in un sistema di relazioni.  Das De-Sitter-Sanatorium (2000) è un ambiente intitolato al matematico olandese Willem de Sitter che teorizzò dal punto di vista matematico l’esistenza di universi paralleli. L’artista crea un ambiente per uso non-pratico. I principali elementi sono un tavolo contenente pillole di prozac, fusti di birra, una sedia lettino e luci fluorescenti, un soffitto realizzato con stecche di legno che si intersecano e maniglie a cui sorreggersi. Le installazioni di Dahlem, con la loro materialità ed evidente fragilità, giocano con la sublimazione del banale, interrogando la fascinazione per l’alto grado di astrazione di sistemi teorici troppo rigidi per spiegare la magia e il mistero che ci circonda.    Untitled (Atlas) è il titolo della mostra che chiude la residenza di un mese di Özlem Altin e Carlotta Sennato presso gli spazi della Fondazione Morra Greco di Napoli. Untitled (Atlas)  ha come punto di partenza una riflessione sull’immagine e sulla memoria, sullo spazio del Palazzo Caracciolo di Avellino in relazione alla possibilità di raccontarne e interpretarne il carattere e le suggestioni. Raccoglie un insieme sfumato di immagini, costruisce un atlante regolato da rimandi interni, in cui le forme abitano un’area indefinita. I lavori delle artiste riflettono il limite tra rappresentazione e non rappresentazione, visibilità e invisibilità. Indagano inoltre le idee di ritrovamento e sparizione, costruzione e conservazione della memoria a partire da uno spazio ambiguo, la cui storia sfuma in una collocazione temporale incerta: tra il passato di palazzo aristocratico e il presente di edificio decadente, permeabile e puntellato, dove ha sede la Fondazione per l’arte contemporanea. Özlem Altin ha sviluppato una ricerca sulle immagini e la rappresentazione del corpo realizzando un’installazione che si fonda principalmente sul concetto di sparizione, ombra e memoria: Ianus (My memory of what happened is not what happened). Giano, a cui l’artista si riferisce nel titolo, presiedeva ai luoghi di passaggio, materiali e immateriali, agli inizi e alle soglie. Era rappresentato con una testa bifronte, perché la sua figura congiungeva passato e futuro. L'artista crea un ambiente intimo in cui sistema immagini che compongono una galleria di presenze corporee che si dissolvono grazie all’intervento pittorico o per mezzo di collage che ne cancellano i dettagli. Carlotta Sennato ha sviluppato un progetto fotografico speciale negli appartamenti del piano nobile del Palazzo Caracciolo di Avellino. Il titolo del progetto è Die Hingehaltenheit che fa riferimento a un concetto mutuato da Heidegger, e traducibile con essere-tenuti-in sospeso. Nelle fotografie di Carlotta Sennato emerge un interesse per le superfici, i dettagli aleatori, le porzioni di spazio catturate da prospettive e punti di vista inaspettati. In queste stanze, l’artista ha cercato segni di diversa entità che rivelano l’intreccio di percorsi temporali e piani di realtà diversi.                                                                   For this exhibition, Björn Dahlem conceived a new installation specifically, titled Black Hole (M-Spheres), which will be shown on the ground floor of the Fondazione. It refers to the orbits of stars around a black hole, visualized by a series of wooden rings that intersect and contain different types of light sources.  On the first floor the exhibition will feature Aua Extrema (2001) and Das De-Sitter-Sanatorium (2000), two installations that were already part of the Fondazione’s collection.  Aua Extrema is a sort of alchemic scenario. Different elements belonging to the world of science, but also to the world of art and of culture in general, live together in a system of relations. Das De-Sitter-Sanatorium (2000) is named after the Dutch mathematician Willem de Sitter, who mathematically theorized the existence of parallel universes. The artist creates an environment for non-practical use. The main elements are a table containing Prozac pills, beer vats, a chair bed and fluorescents, a ceiling made of slats and handles to hold on to. Dahlem’s installations, through their materiality and their weakness, play on the sublimation of the ordinary, questioning the fascination with the high level of abstraction of theoretical systems that are too rigid to explain the magic and mystery surrounding them.   Untitled (Atlas) is the title of the exhibition that concludes the one-month residency of Özlem Altin and Carlotta Sennato at the Fondazione Morra Greco in Naples.  Untitled (Atlas) takes its cue from a reflection on image and memory, on Palazzo Caracciolo di Avellino and the possibility to interpret and to communicate its character and its charms. The work, a fuzzy collection of images, builds an atlas regulated by internal references in which the forms inhabit an undefined area. The works of the two artists reflect the boundary between representation and non-representation, visibility and invisibility. They explore concepts of finding and disappearing, of building and preserving the memory starting from an ambiguous space, whose story fades away in a vague time frame: between its past as aristocratic palace and its present as the permeable and propped decadent building that houses the Foundation for contemporary art. Özlem Altin developed a research on images and the representation of the body and produced an installation based on the concepts of disappearance, shadow and memory: Ianus (My memory of what happened is not what happened). The ancient Italic god Ianus, whose name lends the work its title, was the god of material and immaterial passageways, of beginnings and endings, depicted as having two heads, he connetcted past and future. The artist creates a cosy environment where she places images making up a gallery of corporeal presences which fade away thanks to the pictorial or the collage intervention that erases their features. Carlotta Sennato developed a special photographic project in the rooms on second floor of Palazzo Caracciolo di Avellino. The title of the project is Die Hingehaltenheit which refers to a concept borrowed from Heidegger, meaning “being held in limbo”. Her photographs show an interest for surfaces, aleatory details, portions of space captured from unexpected angles.
