The gallery Magda Danysz presents for the first time Daniel and Geo Fuchs from March 27 to May 15, 2010. German photographers of international repute, they present the ToyGiant series in which they put in scene figurines of actors, artists and even of world leaders - from the collection Selim Varol. The selected photographs are very large scale, sometimes photographed quite simply, sometimes put in a scene where attitudes are shifted or gathered in astonishing composition to give us a new view of these figurines. Batman testifies to the idealism specific to the supermen; Andy Warhol is found between the hands of the hero of Tim Burton - Edward Scissor Hands; elsewhere Hitler, a child, plays with the characters of Star Wars. The identity of the characters disappears behind the fiction.
Universally naive and coloured first of all, the world of the toys photographed by Daniel and Geo produces images of the political tones. The ToyGiant series destabilizes and hustles the codes. Diverted of their initial function, the figurines take a dimension which transcends the fiction. Works of the ToyGiant series reveal the terrifying power conferred on the figurines by the statute of icons. The impact of the photographs is only stronger.
Agitators of conscience, Daniel and Geo Fuchs subject the toys of the collection Selim Varol for the examination by the iconographic strategies installation to manufacture the "heroes of today". Michael Buhrs, director of the Museum Stuck Villa in Munich explain "Daniel and Geo Fuchs leave to the visitors the care to interpret the pale and empty faces of expression: where does reality stop, where begins the setting in scene?"
