"Richard Ibghy, Marilou Lemmens : Horse and Sparrow"
2010-03-26 until 2010-05-01
New Gallery
Calgary, AB,
CA Canada
Artists Richard Ibghy and Marilou Lemmens synthesize modes of expression which combine linguistic, scientific and visual forms of representation in their work; their analysis allows them to bring together seemingly unrelated variables, resulting in insightful commentaries on the human condition. In their most recent installation "Horse and Sparrow", on view at The New Gallery from March 26 to May 1, 2010, their research maps out several possibilities for a more holistic understanding of economic discourse and its impact on human behavior. This work arose as a timely response to the geo-political and economic turmoil which has recently rocked economies around the globe.
Marilou Lemmens and Richard Ibghy have been working collaboratively since 2002. They currently live and work in Montreal and Vancouver. He received a BA in Philosophy from Concordia University and an MBA from l'École des Hautes Études Commerciales de Montréal. Marilou Lemmens holds a BFA in Photography from Concordia University and an MFA from the University of British Columbia. Their work has been presented in exhibitions internationally, including VU (Quebec City, 2010), Vernon Public Art Gallery (Vernon, 2010), European Media Art Festival (Osnabrück, 2009), Labor K1 (Berlin, 2007) and Trafó House of Contemporary Art (Budapest, 2004). www.ibghylemmens.com
