Deb Mitchell is Senior Vice President and Design Director of the multi-disciplinary landscape architecture, planning, urban design, civil engineering and environmental science firm JJR. With over thirty years of experience in the planning and design of vital cities and communities, she understands urban complexities and public processes. Mitchell has been responsible for the award winning plan of Chicago’s Near North Redevelopment, the plaza for the Morphosis-designed San Francisco Federal Building and the National Garden at the U.S. Botanic Garden.  The focus of Mitchell’s talk will be the newly completed Elaine and Charles Sammons Park, the ten acre park at the AT & T Performing Arts Center which she and Michel Desvigne have designed.

DESIGN SYMPOSIUM
Blurring the Lines:  Art, Architecture and Design

The Dallas Architecture Forum is pleased to present its Third Annual Design Symposium, “Blurring the Lines:  Art, Architecture and Design” with five outstanding speakers:  
Terence Riley:  Architect and Partner, Keenan-Riley Architects;  Former Chief Curator of Architecture and Design at MOMA and Director of the Miami Art Museum
James Carpenter:  Architect and founder of firm that synthesizes art and architecture, with special focus in glass design.  Projects include Penn Station and the Rachofsky House.  Carpenter is a recipient of a National Environmental Design Award from the Smithsonian Institution. 
Mark Lee and Sharon Johnston:  Architects, Johnston Marklee.  Founders of firm exploring intricate relationships between design and building technology to create unique works of architecture.  Recipients of numerous awards, including from the AIA.   
Walead Beshty:   Artist and Writer.  Beshty’s works are in the permanent collections of MOMA, Guggenheim and the Victoria and Albert among many others.  Regular contributor to Texte zur Kunst and Afterall.  Lee, Johnston and Beshty will discuss their recent collaboration.   
Jeremy Strick, Director of the Nasher Sculpture Center, will moderate the symposium and lead a Panel Discussion among the speakers at the end of the symposium.  

Tickets for the symposium are $50 each.  Tickets for the Friday evening cocktail reception with the speakers at the home of Cindy and Armond Schwartz and the symposium are $100 each. Presented by the UT Arlington School of Architecture’s “Oral History of Texas Architecture” Project and the Dallas Architecture Forum.  
This symposium will examine the work of Texas architect E.G. Hamilton, focusing on Omniplan and NorthPark Center.    Speakers include E. G. Hamilton, Gabrielle Esperdy, Mark Dilworth, Michael Buckley, Mark Gunderson, Monica Penick, Kate Holliday, and Stephen Fox with moderator Don Gatzke.  

Informal reception following symposium from 5:00 to 6:30 at Omniplan, 1845 Woodall Rodgers Freeway, Suite 150.  
Tickets for symposium only are $50 each.  Tickets for symposium/reception are $60.
