The Center for Contemporary Art - Solvay is happy to present the first eight paintings of Joanna Borkowska's 8/8 series, which is a mirco and macro study of color. These paintings comprise one of the elements of a larger audiovisual project that will be realized in several stages. The exhibit's title, Experience 8, has several meanings, but above all refers to the process of establishing contact with color and its frequencies. For the artist, it is important to document the relationship between the viewer and the paintings, detailing the emotions, experiences and inspirations generated under the influence of a given color. Joanna Borkowska has been a Premiere Portfolio Member at absolutearts.com since 2009.
Ms. Borkowska has been working on this project for nearly two years, though only recently has she begun to gradually present her paintings to the public, creating a space in which the viewers will eventually become creators themselves. A series of workshops will accompany this exhibit at CCA - Solvay that will be devoted to the discovery and strengthening of creativity itself, as well as lectures and discussions on color, its various aspects and contextualized meanings.
Ms. Borkowska (1972) earned her doctorate in political science at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, where she lectured on the history of political thought and international relations. Her focus was, however, on dissident movements, especially Catharism, about which she published a book in 2006. She left her academic career in 2007 so she could devote all of her creative energies to painting, which had been her greatest passion for over a decade.
After debuting last year with a solo exhibition in the National Museum in Szczecin, Poland, and participating in the Florence Biennale 2009, her works will now be on display in Krakow for the first time. At the end of April, Ms. Borkowska will take part in the Salon d'Art Contemporain - Art Monaco 2010.
