PORTABLE

is an exhibition concept devoted to the work of artists and contemporary

practices.

The physical space is intended to be mobile in nature.

PORTABLE will be presented in

a variety of locations when the work and exhibiting artist warrant a particular space.

PORTABLE

is nomadic, and always evolving.

PORTABLE

is not interested in collectors, critics, or tedious art world conundrums,

ethics and politics, nor is it interested in posing as a commercial space, or becoming an

institution. Rather,

PORTABLE

insists that each artist and exhibit is an institution in itself and will be

presented and supported within this variable construct.

PORTABLE

exhibitions are highlighted by extreme arts administrative practices in the

realization of artists’ studio-based concepts to facilitate a broader base of

experimentation alongside critical dialogue with a viewing audience.

PORTABLE

is never the same, nor are the cultural producers that exhibit or are involved

in planning, or collaborative ventures.

PORTABLE

is pleased to announce the inaugural exhibition -

LOVELY CAUTION

by Stephanie Brooks.

LOVELY CAUTION

, is custom-labeled, industry fabricated “caution tape” reworded

with subjective, affective terms. One roll reads “LOVELY” another reading

“SENTIMENTAL” and “SWEET” and so on, with the iconic black lettering on a bright

yellow background. The artist will install the tape in public sites mark geographic areas

Brooks asserts, “My goal is to meet the anxiety of the form’s iconic warning with

emotional private language suggesting an affective public site”

Stephanie Brooks lives and works in Chicago and is represented by Rhona Hoffman

Gallery, as well as Peter Blum in NYC. She received her MFA from the University of

Illinois at Chicago, Chicago, Illinois in 1997. Brooks is in the collections of Philip Morris,
