Intersection for the Arts Celebrates 45th Anniversary Year with an Art Auction Gala Celebrating Artists, Community, Activism and Social Change on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at the Historic San Francisco Chronicle Building 



April 1, 2010 - San Francisco, CA - Intersection for the Arts proudly announces Intersection's 45th Anniversary Gala - Celebrating 45 Years of Changemaking and Trailblazing! on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at the historic San Francisco Chronicle Building at 901 Mission Street. This special event marks Intersection's illustrious 45th anniversary year with an inspirational evening celebrating the artists, community leaders,visionaries, changemakers, and trailblazers who are leading the way forward in our communities. The evening's highlights include Intersection's highly anticipated art auction featuring over 60 one-of-a-kind pieces by celebrated artists with highlights including: Binh Danh, Ala Ebtekar, Taraneh Hemami, Misako Inaoka and Andrew Schoultz. This year, Intersection also introduces the inaugural Intersection ChangeMaker Awards. These awards will honor emerging and established artists and organizations that inspire collaboration, experimentation and transformation in their communities. The evening will include performances, amazing food, and  lively bidding. 

Now in it's 45th year, Intersection continues to build upon its rich legacy in positioning arts and culture as necessary components for a robust civic life with its new gallery space Intersection at 5M, part of an innovative new cross sector project at the SF Chronicle Building in partnership with The Hub Bay Area, a coworking space, event series and business support tool for a global and local community of changemakers. With this anniversary gala, award and collaboration, Intersection continues to assert the role arts and culture can play in tackling the world's most pressing social, cultural and environmental challenges by placing art at the core of social change and community transformation. Proceeds from Intersection's 45th Anniversary Gala will help support Intersection's visual arts, theater, jazz, educational, and artists resources programming. The event will take place on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at the SF Chronicle Building located at 901 Mission Street (at 5th Street), San Francisco, CA 94103. The gala begins at 7pm-10pm. A special VIP Members Preview reception will take place at 6pm-7pm on the same evening. In commemoration of Intersection for the Arts' 45th Anniversary, we are proud to launch the First Annual Intersection ChangeMaker Awards. The Intersection ChangeMaker Awards recognize individuals and organizations whose vision, creativity and leadership has had a significant impact in the Bay Area. Each year, Intersection will recognize up to four awards to individual artists and organizations who are utilizing creative approaches to facilitate collaboration, social change, and community transformation. The Intersection ChangeMaker Awards will honor individuals and organizations who inspire collaboration; embrace experimentation, integrity, and evolution; encourage civic and community engagement; and instigate transformation. We are committed to honoring lifetime achievement and to celebrating new voices and next generation models.

Intersection for the Arts is San Francisco's oldest alternative non-profit art space (est. 1965) and has a long history of presenting new and experimental work in the fields of literature, theater, music and the visual arts, and also in nurturing and supporting the Bay Area's cultural community through service, technical support, and mentorship programs.
