"East Meets Midwest : New Visions of Figurative Painting Includes Philip Hale and Timothy King"
2010-04-14 until 2010-05-08
Beverly Art Center
Chicago, IL, USA United States of America

The traveling exhibition titled, "East Meets Midwest : New Visions of Figurative Painting", opens in Chicago on April 14, with stops in St. Louis, New York City, and Williamsburg, VA. This exhibit surveys American representational painting from two regional groups and features twenty contemporary painters. According to painter and exhibit spokesperson John Goodrich, “this survey brings forward two groups of artists united by visual sensibility and an enthusiasm for traditional painting...To these two contemporary groups of artists, ‘tradition’ is never a limit or restraint, but liberation- a constant source of renewal”. absolutearts.com Premiere Portfolio Members Philip Hale and Timothy King are featured in this exhibition.

The East region painters are represented by Don Beal, Simon Carr, Henry Finkelstein, John Goodrich, Al Kresch, Mark LaRiviere, Stanley Lewis, Ying Li, Ruth Miller, and Thaddeus Radell. The Midwestern painters are Bob Brock, Glen Cebulash, Philip Hale, Timothy King, Lynette Lombard, Jeremy Long, Michael Neary, Don Southard, Ron Weaver, and Megan Williamson. “East Meets Midwest” is sponsored by the Midwest Paint Group.

The Exhibit opens at the Beverly Art Center in Chicago on April 14 and runs through May 8 with an Opening Reception on April 24. The exhibit goes on to the Hoffman-La Chance Contemporary in St. Louis, MO between July 9 and August 15; the Westbeth Gallery in New York between September 11 and October 3; and ends up at the Andrews Gallery at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg between January 26 and February 17, 2011. The Chicago, New York, and Williamsburg showings will also feature a panel discussion with the artists on “Why Figurative Painting Won’t Die” at the dates August 24, September 11, and February 17 respectively.
