UICA Launches New Digital Collection
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., April 16, 2010 – On April 21, the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts, along with Commissioner Rosalynn Bliss, will launch UICA’s new Digital Collection and expanded Education Program. Developed through the documentation of UICA’s artists and exhibitions, the collection will promote the careers of our creative class and help to connect new audiences with their artwork. The evening will showcase video interviews, audio guides, online tools, and teacher resources, which will be supplied to schools across the state. With opportunities to hear teacher testimonials and engage with student participants, this exclusive preview will be sure to captivate, inspire, and educate. Guests will enjoy food and drinks as they experience this new and growing program.
Digital Collection Launch Party

This new collection is the result of UICA’s $150,000 matching grant by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), a federal agency based in Washington, D.C. UICA was awarded the IMLS grant to develop new video and internet-based media. This media will be used to curate and present exhibitions, launch a permanent digital collection of contemporary arts resources, and offer new media educational programs for teachers, students, and the community. The award is part of the highly competitive IMLS “Museums for America” program and requires a local dollar-for-dollar match. UICA sought and was awarded the maximum $150,000 grant over two years.
Donors with a passion for UICA’s new facility and its related technologies now have the rare opportunity to have their contributions tripled, potentially matched by both the DeVos Family Foundation and the IMLS.
