PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Release:
Date: April 23, 2010

SOLO EXHIBITION OF PAINTINGS, “RHYTHMS OF NATURE” BY
LINDA JACOBSON AT  EXHIBITIONS GALLERY
CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY CHANNEL ISLANDS.

“Rhythms of Nature,” a solo exhibition of recent landscape and abstract paintings, in watercolor and acrylic by Linda Jacobson will be exhibited at the Exhibitions Gallery of the California State University Channel Islands from April 29 through May 28, 2010.

Jacobson’s paintings express the essence and energy of aspects of nature and depict the earth as a source of healing. In her work, nature becomes a metaphor for internal psychic and spiritual states of consciousness. They are not depictions of visually perceived form, but the experience of the essence of nature and the life force energy that animates it. Preferring large movements and patterns to representational description,  Jacobson explores landscape as abstraction by simplifying the image into elemental shape, color and form.  "By employing many layers of translucent color, and suggesting a light source from within the paintings themselves, I am able to achieve a powerful saturation of color and an almost numinous quality of light" said Jacobson.

“Linda Jacobson's paintings represent a pure form of nature mysticism,” writes Michael Zakian, Director of Weisman Gallery at Pepperdine University. "Jacobson sees the world as animated by an organic force.  Matter is never inert, but swells and sways with an animating spirit."

Jacobson has focused on spiritual landscapes since 1978, when she spent time in Arles in Southern France and experienced the mistral, a powerful wind that blows through the region turning fields into seas of swirling motion.

Linda Jacobson's paintings  featured in solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally including the California State University Los Angeles; Gallery K, Washington D.C.;  Mt. St. Mary’s College, Los Angeles; Caldera Gallery, Santorini,Greece; Galerie Marquet, Paris and have been the subject of numerous articles and reviews.  She was on the faculty of the University of California Extension, Los Angeles, the Otis Institute of Art,   and the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena. She coordinates the program Art & Spirit Artists Retreats and Seminars in Europe and the U.S.A., where she is also an instructor.  She received her BFA from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA.
