Richard Mason presents Carbonage Light in the Main gallery, Arstrip and
New media room.
Carbonage refersto a fusion of carbon based life forms with the
ideologies and Products of transnational corporations in a world that
revolves around oil. Carbonage Light reifies these ideologies and in so
doing exposes the effects of late capitalism, war, politics and religion
while revealing their inevitable contradictions.  Mason uses a diverse
range of materials from:  carbon fibre; commercial light boxes; used car
oil; coal; oil drums and video. This creates an intense, media rich
environment designed to overwhelm the viewer.
 
Anatomical Arrangements is the first solo exhibition by Tamzyn Varney
employing the Long Gallery. 
The work featured in this exhibition focuses on the human body as a
social emblem.  It takes a look at how inherent bodily functions are
suppressed in order to fulfil roles of social and cultural
acceptability. It also looks at the Homo Farber (man as a maker of
things.), and how metamorphosis takes place through processes of
manipulation and play. Varney engages in a range of mediums from
sculpture, to video, collage, print media and conceptual photography.
