It’s the place where my prediction from the sixties finally came true: “In the future everyone will be famous for fifteen minutes.” I’m bored with that line. I never use it anymore. My new line is, “In fifteen minutes everybody will be famous.” - Andy Warhol (from Andy Warhol’s Exposures (1979) “Studio 54”)

The exhibition In fifteen minutes everybody will be famous brings together 22 international artists whose work refers either to Warhol’s signature Pop style, his “Art as Business” ethos, or to the infamous motifs and events that characterized his controversial career. read more

{CTS} creative thriftshop in conjunction with LZ Project Space and curator David Gibson is pleased to announce the exciting new group show entitled Back Room Biennial. This show includes five curators each selecting two artist.

When I first saw the space which was to become LZ Project Space, it made me think of little back rooms in galleries everywhere, which are sometimes offices and sometimes storage facilities, but which always hold the evidence of future achievement. Whether packed up in crates and bubble wrap or hanging just above the gallery director’s desk, what is found in back rooms is the next thing to grace the gallery walls. I thought, what if this became a motif for a group exhibition, even a biennial? Using the rarified territory of the back room as a model for organized visions of current and future talent seemed very interesting. I have invited other curators to add to the mix, filling a small space on a side street and making it into a curiosity cabinet of curatorial approaches to the ‘new’ and the ‘next’. read more

Twelve blocks north of here, hello. Finally, a way to make Hummers more environmentally friendly, remove the engines and drag them around Central Park. This Hummer, fueled by horsepower, is actually art. The artist, Jeremy Dean, rides it around the park with the help of horses, Dean and Diesel. The monster car features the chrome rims, the booming audio system. Mr. Dean hopes his masterpiece makes a statement about sustainability and energy resources. Meanwhile, marketing execs hope it tests well with Amish with something to prove, because they have a lot of these clinkers to sell. read more

Horse-drawn Hummer:
Last month artist Jeremy Dean drove a horse-drawn carriage through New York City.  The horses were two White Percherons – standard draft horses for Central Park.  And the carriage was a Hummer H2. Dean’s trip was equal parts performance art and sculpture.  He bought a used Hummer, sliced off most of the front end, and turned it into a modern version of the Hoover Cart – a modified horse-drawn car that Depression-era drivers resorted to when they could no longer afford gasoline.  Titled “Back to the Futurama,” the project is at once a reminder of our recent economic history and a cautionary tale of what may come. read more
