Karin Weber Gallery
SoHo, ,
HK Hong Kong
Having shown frequently in Europe particularly Paris, artist Wang Gang is making his debut exhibition in Hong Kong at the Karin Weber Gallery. Born in 1964 in Jinan, Shandong Province in China, Wang Gang has been living and working in Paris since 1996. He is a member of La Maison des Artistes de France. His portraits evoke a feeling of otherworldliness, often daydreaming or contemplating. No matter whether the person is looking at himself in the mirror, sipping tea or on a wing, he is imbued with inner peace which could be representation of the artist himself. Working in oil, the artist achieves an almost patina like finish on the surface of the canvas.
The exhibition will also introduce the abstract paintings by Professor Xuhong Shang. The works belong to the artist's 'Momentary' series. Vaguely hinting at landscapes or seascapes, the paintings capture the fleeting moments of transitional light, verging on darkness. A firm believer in Daoism, the artist's works exemplify movement towards enlightenment. Xuhong Shang is currently teaching at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
