Mateo López, Adentro y en medio (detail), Galeria Casas Riegner, 2006
Please join us for the residency artists' talk on Wednesday 12 May at 7pm.
David Bestué, Mateo López and Güneş Terkol will introduce their practice, offering visitors the opportunity to meet the artists and start dialogues that could inform the development of their work in London.
David Bestué (Spain) uses different media to investigate ideas drawn from philosophy, art history, architecture and film. By making small changes to public and domestic scenarios, his works create absurd situations that question the conventions of human behaviour.
Güneş Terkol (Turkey) draws inspiration from her immediate surroundings to sew and draw, compose music and make videos. The protagonists of her often humorous narratives are usually women adapting or refusing to adapt to social and cultural transformations.
Mateo López (Colombia) creates studio like situations in which the production and display of the work overlap. He constructs narratives combining drawings, notes and photographs with everyday objects. Lopez' residency will lead to a two-venue exhibition at Gasworks and Camberwell Space, opening in June.
