The Ottawa Art Gallery is proud to invite you to the opening of three new and exciting exhibits which will take place on Thursday May 20th at 5:30 pm. Dr. Shirley Thomson, OAG board member, will be providing opening remarks.
The Ottawa Art Gallery is also pleased to announce that it has received a generous grant in the amount of $20,000 from the Ontario Ministry of Culture through its Museums and Technology Fund, which will support the development a web-based project that will provide on-line public access to the historical Firestone Collection of Canadian Art. The Gallery is delighted to welcome The Honourable Minister Madeleine Meilleur MPP, Ontario Minister for Community and Social Services who will announce the grant during the opening.

Duncan de Kergommeaux is a painter whose career as an artist spans almost six decades. From the formative abstractions of the 50's through his linear abstractions and illuminated cube paintings of the 60's, the systemized process-oriented grid paintings and support-specific drawings of the 1970's, on into the more recent painterly embellishments of the landscape, this exhibition frames de Kergommeaux as an artist whose interest in process, form, abstraction and perception leads him on in his quest for understanding the creative process.

Artist-programmer Eric Sze-Lang Chan's work resides at the intersection of painting and computer-mediated art. Chan's process evokes a sensibility akin to action painting of the 1960s in the ways that it explores issues related to the body and performance. The artist integrates computer algorithms into his paintings, illustrating contemporary conceptions of the machine as an extension of the body. His process is shaped by chance and certainty, improvisation and script, affect and effect.

Talk and Performance | Wednesday 2 June at 7:30 pm with artist Eric Sze-Lang Chan, Club SAW, 67 Nicholas Street (in English). In the context of his solo exhibition Intersections, Eric Sze-Lang Chan will discuss his art practice and demonstrate his process through a performance. Presented in collaboration with Artengine.
Action with Eric Sze-Lang Chan | Thursday 10 June from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm and Saturday 12 June from 11 am to 5 pm, Artengine, M70 Lab, 2 Daly Avenue (in English). This workshop will provide a foundation for working with Adobe Flash Action Script 3.0, allowing artists to create custom animation and interactive work for both network and gallery environments. Presented by Artengine.

2010 celebrates the 10th edition of the Ottawa Art Gallery's successful educational program Students Interpret the Firestone Collection of Canadian Art. In collaboration with local high schools, this program supports O.J. and Isobel Firestone's wish that their art collection be made accessible to the public and be used as an educational resource.To this end, students from École secondaire catholique Béatrice-Desloges, Canterbury High School and Colonel By Secondary School have explored Canadian art history through the Collection's holdings.

La Galerie d'art d'Ottawa est fière de vous inviter au vernissage de trois très excitants nouvelles expositions. Le vernissage se déroulera dès 17 h 30, le jeudi 20 mai. Dr. Shirley Thomson, membre du conseil d'administration de la GAO prononcera le discours d'ouverture.
La Galerie d'art d'Ottawa est fière d'annoncer qu'elle recevra une généreuse subvention au montant de 20 000 $ du Ministère de la culture, par le biais de son Fonds pour les musées et la technologie. Ces fonds contribueront à la création d'un projet en-ligne qui rendra la Collection Firestone d'art canadien accessible au public. La GAO est enchantée d'accueillir l'Honorable Madeleine Meilleur, ministre des Services sociaux et communautaires qui annoncera l'octroi de la subvention.

Duncan de Kergommeaux est un peintre dont la carrière couvre près de soixante ans.De ses abstractions formatrices des années 1950 à ses abstractions linéaires et ses tableaux cubes lumineux des années 1960, de ses tableaux-grilles basés sur un processus systémique à ses dessins liés aux supports des années 1970, jusqu'à ses plus récents embellissements picturaux du paysage, cette exposition présente un artiste dont l'intérêt pour le processus, la forme, l'abstraction et la perception l'a lancé dans une quête de compréhension du processus créateur par les marques qu'il fait.

Dans son travail, l'artiste-programmeur Eric Sze-Lang Chan, amalgame peinture et art informatique. Sa sensibilité rappelle l'action painting des années 1960 dans la façon qu'il a d'explorer les questions relatives au corps et à la performance. Chan intègre des algorithmes informatiques dans ses toiles et illustre ainsi les conceptions contemporaines de la machine comme extension du corps. Hasard et certitude, improvisation et scénarisation, affect et fait informent son processus.

Causerie et performance | Le mercredi 2 juin à 19 h 30 avec l'artiste Eric Sze-Lang Chan, Club SAW, 67, rue Nicholas (en anglais). À l'occasion de son exposition solo, Intersections, Eric Sze-Lang Chan discutera de son art et illustrera sa démarche par une performance. Présentées en collaboration avec Artengine.

En 2010, la Galerie d'art d'Ottawa célèbre la 10e édition de son fructueux programme éducatif, Les étudiants interprètent la Collection Firestone d'art canadien. En collaboration avec les écoles secondaires locales, ce programme actualise le souhait d'O.J. et Isobel Firestone de voir leur collection accessible au public et devenir une ressource éducative. Ainsi, les étudiants de l'École secondaire catholique Béatrice-Desloges, de la Canterbury High School et de la Colonel By Secondary School ont exploré l'histoire de l'art canadien grâce au fonds de la collection.
