Autograph ABP are pleased to announce Iqbal Wahhab as the new Chair

May 2010

Iqbal Wahhab OBE was born in Bangladesh and is a graduate of the London School of Economics. After working as a journalist in the national press for three years, in 1991 he set up his own PR firm and then in 1994 launched Tandoori Magazine. He sold out of the magazine to launch the multi award winning Cinnamon Club in 2001 and in 2005 opened Roast, a restaurant and bar in Borough Market. In 2007 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration by the University of East London. He works closely with The Prince’s Trust, taking children from under-privileged schools in south east London, spending half days with them at Roast and taking them on food education programmes around Borough Market. Iqbal is Chair of the Government’s Ethnic Minority Advisory Group, which discusses ways to reduce ethnic minority unemployment levels, sitting on a Task Force with five minsters to formulate policies to this end.

Iqbal Wahhab says:

"For many years I have been watching with avid interest the growth and development of Autograph ABP, its aims and ambitions. It's an absolute pleasure to be invited to become Chair and I look forward to working with Mark and the team to expand its identity as contemporary, relevant and powerful. Photography is an amazing forum for the establishment of ideas and the assertion of cultural messages and I relish the prospect of taking on this latest chapter in Autograph's fantastic journey."

Autograph ABP director Mark Sealy welcomes Iqbal Wahhab as the next Chair:

"It's great news that Iqbal Wahhab has agreed to become the next Chair of Autograph ABP. He succeeds Rosemary Miles who took on the role of Chair after Professor Stuart Hall retired. His early career in media and his successful business acumen, and commitment to social justice, make him a perfect fit for our organisation. I'm really looking forward to the next few years of organisational development and delivering the future plans for the organisation with such a renowned and respected member of London's business community."
