On Wednesday, May 26, photographer Jesús Manuel
Mena Garza will present photographs of “El Movimiento” or the Chicano Movement
at the San
Bernardino
County
Museum at 7:30pm. This
guest presentation is open to public and
free of
charge.
The Chicano Photographer is an extensive collection of documentary
photographs that record Chicana/o activism and culture in
San
Jose,
California from 1970 to 1975. Taken when he was a student
there, these images reveal the panoply of activist, artists, and most
importantly the Chicano Movement—El Movimiento Chicano. Garza will present black
and white photographs from the
collection.
Jesús Manuel Mena Garza is an award-winning photographer whose
photographs have been published by the Smithsonian Institution, Princeton
University Press, Harper Collins Publishers, Pearson Longman Press, McGraw-Hill
and others. He firmly believes that community service is an obligation. Since
1974 he has volunteered for arts funding, judging and discussion panels, and in
organizations such as the Veterans Affairs
Hospital, Habitat for Humanity and the
United
Way.
Garza continues to present his photographs and lecture about his work and the
