This exhibition explores the early vibrant and experimental years that shape Haring’s artistic language and philosophy. The focus of the exhibition is works on paper and will present drawings (from note book size to very large dimensions), flyers, posters, video documentation of drawings that cover entire spaces, photographs, subway drawings, word-collages, and the artist’s writings.

Next to Haring’s signature pieces, the project will showcase many works that have rarely been exhibited and aims to give insight into a layered, complex, gestating artistic process and mind. The exhibition will also explore Haring’s role as an untiring facilitator of group exhibitions, performances, and other artistic initiatives. The artist’s collaborative spirit and role as a catalyst is just as inspiring as the incredibly rich output of his own artistic production.

Keith Haring: 1978-1982 is co-organized by the Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati and the Kunsthalle Wien. Curated by Raphaela Platow
