THE VENICE ART FORUM GROUP

THE CENTER FOR ART AND SPIRIT IN VENICE, CA, JUNE 13
2010
“STUDO VISIONS,” a group exhibition of
paintings in watercolor, oil and acrylic by the Venice Art Forum
will be exhibited at the Center for Art and Spirit in Venice on June
13, 2010. A portion of all sales will benefit the Alcott Center for
Mental Health's Art Program.
Venice Art Forum is a group of Los Angeles artists that
share the values of inner exploration and spiritual transformation as an
essential component of their art. The group of artists, founded and coordinated
by Linda Jacobson artist and instructor, all share a desire to communicate their
love of the natural world and the mysterious life force energy that lies behind
it. The expression of their work is diverse, yet there is a unifying theme
inherent in all the paintings. Linda began the group in the 90’s as
an expansion of her innovative Art and Transformation creativity courses
she taught through UCLA
Extension.
The exhibition includes deeply personal works that express the mysterious nature
of abstractions, meditations on imaginary landscape, vivid realistic portrayals
to spontaneous expression in paint & color. They explore the internal and
external aspects of life and how the inner and outer natures parallel one
another.
The show features the work of Ciya, Debra Gangale, Carole Garland,
Barbara Golbin, Linda Jacobson, Regine Legler, Melissa Reischman and
Jean
Wolff.
The recent work of
Ciya
explores the
marriage of the spontaneous, free & intuitive with the precise &
detailed. In this work I explore the interplay of form and space - what happens
when form fills space and when space, as a participant, enlivens
form.
Debra Gangale’s oil paintings of delicately rendered bird portraits
are small jewels. Each reflects the power and beauty of the individual
creature…sensitively observed and
expressed.
Carole Garland's new paintings express the mystery of darkness, as she
explains” I paint what happens after the sun goes down, the arrival of the
evening landscape and the otherwordly effects of light captured by the camera
while roaming the Los Angeles Freeway by
night”.
Barbara Golbin’s still lifes radiate with vivid
colors…delicious bold orange and Yves Klein Blue. There is no shyness
here, just a delicate yet rambunctious portrayal of simple forms of nature
juxtaposed with decorative patterns of fabric and strong background
color
Regine Legler’s bold expressionistic portraits are paintings of
what touches her the most. She says, “Painting what I feel brings
me closer in touch with who I am and what I feel, it helps me process what I
might not otherwise
understand.”
The extraordinary landscapes of Melissa Reischman take us into
a meditation upon the possibility of pristine otherworldy horizons, the space
between twilight and dawn, the light of dusk and misty
horizons.
The elegant torn paper collages of Jean Wolff embody a powerful duality and
synthesis of opposites. Her natural sense of design creates sophisticated and
refined works, yet at the same time they are physical, tactile, sculptural and
reveal a hint of edginess. She says, “The movement I create in my work?is
a demonstration of flowing…from positive to negative,?from one shape to
countershape, from surface to
surface.”
Linda Jacobson’s paintings express the essence and energy of aspects of
nature and depict the earth as a source of healing. In her work, nature becomes
a metaphor for internal psychic and spiritual states of consciousness. They are
not depictions of visually perceived form, but the experience of the essence of
nature and the life force energy that animates
it.
The group has shown together in many exhibitions including previous shows
at SPARC Gallery, Available Light, The Rose Cafe, and Gallery IV in
Downtown Los
Angeles.
