This fall, the MMK
Museum für Moderne
Kunst
in Frankfurt am Main will for the very first time in the museum’s
history
devote all its galleries to one medium: photography. The new presentation
of
our collection, entitled “The Lucid Evidence. Works from the
Photography
Collection of the MMK”, and will open simultaneously with the
special
exhibition “Not in Fashion. Photography and Fashion in the 90s”
on
Friday, September 24 at 8
pm.
In “Not in Fashion. Photography
and
Fashion in the 90s” the MMK sets out to show how the
fashion
and fashion imagery of the 1990s shaped the way we understand the
photographic
image, publishing and media in general. The period was a time
when
artists, photographers, and designers were actively looking for exchange
in
order to corrupt established modes of categorization in their
respective
fields.
The MMK owns one of the largest collections of contemporary
international
photography, with over 2,600 works. The presentation “The Lucid Evidence. Works from the Photography Collection of
the
MMK” gives visitors an insight into the various aspects
of
this major collection. It is highly diverse and above all features
complete
work groups by renowned artists such as Nobuyoshi Araki, Bernd and
Hilla
Becher, Larry Clark, Peter Fischli and David Weiss, Günther Förg,
Bettina
Rheims, Thomas Ruff, Beat Streuli and Jeff
Wall.

Sehr geehrte Damen und
Herren,
in diesem Herbst wird das MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst in Frankfurt am
Main
erstmalig seine Räume komplett mit Fotografie bespielen. Die
neue
Sammlungspräsentation „The Lucid Evidence. Fotografie aus der
Sammlung
des MMK“ und die Sonderausstellung „Not in Fashion. Mode
und
Fotografie der 90er Jahre“ werden gemeinsam am Freitag, 24. September
um
20 Uhr
eröffnet.
Unter dem Titel „Not in Fashion.
Mode
und Fotografie der 90er Jahre“, zeigt das MMK, wie die Mode
in
den 1990er Jahren unseren Blick auf die Welt verändert hat. In dieser
Zeit
erfand sich die Modeszene vor allem durch das Medium der Fotografie
grundlegend
neu. Eine ganze Generation, für die
Identitätsfindung,
Individualismus und ein eigener Stil zentrale Bedeutung hatten, definierte
sich
über die Mode und ihre
Bilder.
Mit über 2600 Werken besitzt das MMK eine der größten
Sammlungen
internationaler Gegenwartsfotografie. Die Präsentation
„The Lucid Evidence. Fotografie aus der
Sammlung
des MMK“ verschafft einen Einblick in diesen
bedeutenden
fotografischen Bestand. Vor allem die kompletten Werkgruppen, wie die
von
Nobuyoshi Araki, Bernd und Hilla Becher, Larry Clark, Peter Fischli und
David
Weiss, Günther Förg, Bettina Rheims, Thomas Ruff, Beat Streuli und Jeff Wall,
machen
den Facettenreichtum dieses Sammlungskonvoluts
aus.
