PRESS RELEASE: FOR IMMEDIATE
RELEASE
THE
SIX
A Premiere Exhibit of
"New Philadelphia School" Members in New York
City
Tribeca, New York, October 2010
–
JSF Contemporary proudly presents “The Six,” a compelling exhibition
of
six New Philadelphia School members, who are actively
redefining
Philadelphia’s traditionally conservative artistic
reputation.
Exhibited in the McNeill Art Group Tribeca Project Space (143 Reade
St.),
a private champagne press reception will be held on Wednesday,
September
29th, from 5-7pm to celebrate the group’s debut. The opening
reception
will be held on Wednesday, October 6th, from 6-9pm.
In 1908
the
Ashcan School, a group of Philadelphia based artists led by
Robert
Henri, organized a groundbreaking exhibition of their work in New
York
City in response to what they felt was an inadequate representation
of
the Philadelphia art scene. Following in their footsteps this
fall,
Jeffrey Frederick will curate "The Six” comprised of artists
Thomas
G.
Brady, Jonathan Eckel, Adam Lee Farrell, James Labold, Kenneth
E.
Parris III, and Gregory Prestegord. Members of what Frederick
has
coined “The New Philadelphia School,” together they create
a
complimentary vision of the city's progressive and diverse
contemporary
art scene.
"The
New
Philadelphia School is not defined by a particular style or
movement,”
says Frederick, “instead these artists each share a highly
personal
aesthetic vision. Conversely, when shown together their work seems
to
compliment itself. They are all pushing the boundaries of
contemporary
art yet remain simultaneously rooted in
tradition.”
In
a
contemporary art world increasingly dominated by digitally
manipulated
images many critics have proclaimed the death of real painting,
this
exhibition will confirm that it is alive and well in the city
of
Philadelphia.
“The Six” will be on view from
Wednesday
October 6th 2010 through January 9th 2011 at the McNeill Art Group Tribeca
Project Space (143 Reade St.). An artist’s reception will
take
place on Wednesday October 6th 6-9pm. Gallery hours by appointment
only.
By showcasing their roster of eclectic artists JSF Contemporary aims
to
expose both young and established contemporary art collectors to
this
exciting new work and advise their audience on developing
tasteful
collections. With a private exhibition space located in the heart
of
historic Old City, Philadelphia's gallery district, it offers a
more
intimate and engaging experience than the traditional
gallery
setting. Now, with this exhibition, JSF Contemporary will affirm
its
position in the New York contemporary art
scene.

McNeill Art Group began as an art consulting and
acquisitions
company in 2005. After establishing a presence as a private dealer
and
exhibiting artists at international art fairs around the world,
McNeill
began seeking exhibition opportunities in alternative spaces.
McNeill
worked with Artisan Lofts to create the McNeill Art Group
Tribeca
Project Space in an effort to continue the global movement
towards
enhancing the visibility of contemporary art while not conforming
to
the traditional gallery structure. The Tribeca Project Space is on
the
ground floor of Artisan Lofts in Tribeca, located at 143 Reade St.
in
New York
City.
