Skillfully applying visual language which in the twentieth
century became almost exclusively confined to works of commercial and propaganda
illustrators such as: J.C. Leyendecker, Norman Rockwell, Gil Elvgren, Norman
Saunders and others, Sam Kaprielov produces an unique and strangely compelling
universe, a silent symphony of mysterious exchanges.
Kaprielov’s technique of drawing
with soft pastel on a gessoed board, by simply using his fingers, to shade in
the drama which mystically occurs, is as much an art as the art which emerges
consequently. Coupled with Kaprielov’s unrivalled sense of light, his
technique makes way to his imagination to run riot creating imaginary,
emotionally charged scenes, dramatic escapades, filled with disparate images of
desolation and beauty.
