"Sally Benton : Shadows"
2010-10-07 until 2010-10-30
First Street Gallery
New York, NY,
USA United States of America
First Street Gallery is pleased to present a selection of recent, intimate paintings by Sally Benton. Benton has been exploring her immediate surroundings: garden flowers; ordinary images of domestic life, a plate, butter knife and jam jar; friends in front of her studio window as well as her old, three-legged dog. This is Benton’s twentieth show in New York and the United States. She is in
many private collections here and abroad.
The First Street Gallery promotes their artists with a Gallery Portfolio at absolutearts.com.
Benton invites us into her world to experience the objects and their shadow
images. She captures the vitality of these intimate landscapes of color and
light through their opposite, shadow. Shadows are moving shapes … they exist
illuminated by light but are themselves the very absence of light, ghostly
perceptions of what exists. Yet, they are quiet voids that disguise themselves
as their surrogate, yet disappear with the light.
Benton’s last show, ‘On Dance’ was about movement, heat and color. This
current work is about light, stillness, silence and memory.
