In Pursuit by Nicholas Shick plays with ambiguous narratives as layered as his silk screening process. In this installation, panels of life-size figures appear to run through the gallery and out into the main entrance of the space. In this chase it is never clear who is chasing whom, and the motivations behind the chase are left for the viewer to decide. The existential battle of "us and them" and the fear of the unknown come into play, leaving the viewer to fill in the blanks of the story.
Nicholas Shick incorporates photography, printmaking, digital imaging and graphic arts into his practice. His large-as-life works explore themes of human behaviour through the eyes of a voyeur. Together his images offer up multiple perspectives on the ambiguities between public and private life. Shick explores awkwardness, irresolution, alienation and anticlimax in his imagery, adding colourful graphic accents that heighten their drama and visual impact.
