‘A SPACE FOR
LEARNING’
EXHIBITION BEGINS ITS NATIONAL TOUR AT NCAD GALLERY
The Irish Architecture Foundation’s A SPACE FOR LEARNING exhibition opens
at
the NCAD Gallery from November 5 to January 29, 2011, showcasing the
top
ten designs from a competition where architects/architecture graduates
work
with Transition Year students on the design of educational
spaces.
Ten winning architect-student teams from
counties
Cavan, Limerick, Louth, Cork and Dublin have created films,
installations,
models and drawings to illustrate their ideas about learning spaces
and
environments, which will tour to various locations around Ireland during
2011.
Funded by
the
Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government with
additional
funding from the Department of Education and Skills, this exhibition
will
showcase a unique collaborative project, created by the Irish
Architecture
Foundation (IAF), to raise public awareness of the importance of school
design.
The
exhibition
of A Space for Learning is
accompanied
by an education programme, which includes school visits, teacher training
on
incorporating architecture into the classroom, NCAD student events,
public
lectures and lunchtime talks by the participating architects. Rachel McAree, Education Curator for
the
IAF added: The exhibition
and
education programme will open up a new discussion on school building
design,
highlighting issues such as sustainability, light, shape and colour
in
educational spaces.
A Space
for
Learning is on exhibition at the NCAD Gallery,
Harry Clarke House, 100 Thomas Street, Dublin 8, from November 5, 2010 to January 29, 2011 (closed December
18-January
2).
Open Monday to Saturday, 10am-5pm.
