to November 30, 2010
Reception: Friday, November 12, 7:00 to 9:00 P.M.
Weaver
Robin Lynde and felt maker Julia Kehew combined their love of handmade textiles
with their appreciation for fine paintings to produce Artful Fiber. Robin and Julia chose paintings
as their starting point, and then collaboratively and individually interpreted
them into works of beautiful yet functional fiber art. The spheres of art and
craft gracefully intertwined to produce pieces that reflect the spirit and
flavor of creative inspiration. Robin weaves vibrant wraps and scarves from wool produced by her Jacob sheep. They provide
Robin with natural colored yarn for her clothing and other weavings. She also
uses chenille and bamboo yarns, which are brilliantly colored, as are her hand
painted skeins. Julia uses centuries-old wet felting techniques to
create her hats using handdyed wool, silk,
and alpaca fibers. Pleats, tucks, and embellishments such as vintage
buttons, beads, and stitching, with handspun threads and yarns are added
for a finishing touch
