Dear Museum Supporter,

For your enjoyment the Arlington Museum of Art is excited to present to you a three part themed exhibition in our Main Gallery. This exhibition will  feature works of amazing visual art by persons who struggle with debilitating mental and physical limitations. Also, featured in our Mezzanine and Denker Galleries we have the featured work of three local artists telling stories of the west through their own unique view and local arts group Widespectrum sharing their own eclectic artistic expressions. Visible Voices: Paintings by People with Memory Loss

ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION Exhibits Paintings by People with Dementia

November 5 - November 28, 2010

 

The mission of the Alzheimer's Association is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.

 

The exhibition is planned to coincide with Alzheimer's Awareness Month and is comprised of some 60 paintings by participants in Memories in the Making®, an art program for people with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.

 

Two education events are planned in conjunction with Visible Voices: Paintings by People with Memory Loss:

 

All About Alzheimer's Thursday, November 11, 1 to 2:30. An informative slide presentation about understanding memory loss by staff of the Alzheimer's Association. Open and free to the public.

 

Memories in the Making® Training: Thursday, November 18, 2 to 4 pm.
Free; $50 for care facility staff. by reservation only.This is a presentation on the philosophy, method and materials of Memories in the Making®, for potential volunteers, facility staff and interested individuals.

Art Lifts Handicapped People

Sponsored by the International Institute of Sport

November 5-28, 2010



This exhibit includes work by artists from Haiti and Kenya who produce amazingly beautiful paintings despite handicaps such as missing limbs, polio paralysis or paraplegia.


An adjunct feature of this exhibit is a collection of colorful digital art renderings on aluminum by professional photographer Don Bristow from Tyler, Texas. Titled Chaotica, the art is based on abstract mathematical patterns that can be observed in many natural systems.


Sales of Chaotica paintings will help fund the mission of the International Institute of Sport, an organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities. The IIS is currently sponsoring a Haitian amputee soccer team who will play in the World Cup for Amputees in Argentina.

Dale Bedford

Main Gallery

November 5-28


The third part of the themed November exhibit is work by the late Arlington artist and teacher Dale Bedford whose artistic talent blossomed after he suffered traumatic brain injury in an accident. Dale's large scale oils on canvas have a depth of meaning and spiritual content.

WEST OF ARLINGTON: Unique Views of the West
Featured artists Sharon Markwardt, Gene Dillard, Charles Gilliam

November 3 - November 29, 2010

  

This exhibit reveals the West through the eyes of three different perspectives. Each artist brings a unique view of the West. These views are presented in a wide variety of mediums and styles. But each puts his and her brand on how they see the West- both past and present.

WIDE SPECTRUM: An Art Exhibit by Ten Local Artists
