Korey Gulbrandson began his artistic
career as a child, when he won a local supermarket coloring contest. It was in
high school, when he found some old oil paints that belonged to his mother, that
he began to use paint as his main medium.
Creating his abstracts is a laborious process that begins with carefully
crafting wooden canvasses, then applying layers of wax and acrylic paint,
working to emphasize contrasting elements and texture. Korey's new work is a
development in texture and refinement of his technique. "I'm never content"
says Korey. "There is always something new to be done."
He now focuses on furthering his style by creating abstracts in a simple, yet
sophisticated manner. Gulbrandson's newest body of work personifies his
philosophical perspective, much like the new tatoo he wears, which reads simply:
"Less is more".
Meet Korey Gulbrandson during his artist reception at LAWRENCE GALLERY
SALISHAN on Saturday, November 6, from 2 PM to 4 PM.

Jeff Butler's subject matter comes from
memory, imagination, and interpretation of life unfolding. Previous training
and experience in photography and graphic design began his journey as an artist.
Ultimately, he was drawn to sculpture to explore form, space and dimension in a
more tactile manner. Chosen for durability, sustainability, and complimentary
to his work, his chosen materials are a combination of organic materials such as
wood, stone, metal and pigment. Each element is carefully selected, cut, carved,
formed and surfaced to maximize the visual impact of the finished piece. Says
Butler, "My objective for each piece of sculpture is to arouse interest, draw
the viewer closer and intrigue the mind. The interplay of materials and form is
designed to hold interest. My style is abstract and contemporary and offers the
opportunity for personal interpretation and
conversation."
Jeff Butler's work will be featured during November and December at
LAWRENCE GALLERY SALISHAN. His first show with Lawrence Gallery, you may meet
the artist during a reception on Saturday, November 6, from two o'clock to four
o'clock in the afternoon.

Neal Philpott seeks to capture the
fleeting imagery of our natural world in his landscape paintings. Classically
trained in the fine arts, Philpott brings this expertise and experience to each
painting. His love of color and engagement with composition is expressed in the
nuance and atmosphere he achieves. Bold diagonal movement and lusciously
painted surfaces define his vision of the forests, mountains, fields, and
valleys of the Pacific Northwest. Using paint layering, edge control, color
temperature modulation, and glazing, Philpott creates art that bring the viewer
into his austerely inviting landscape.
Philpott is an avid artist, musician, designer and runner. He has had several
successful Portland area shows and is a ten-year contributor to the Sitka Art
Invitational. An accomplished guitar player, he has played in clubs all around
the Portland area. He is also design director for a Portland based museum and
exhibit design and fabrication firm. Philpott stays active running the rural
roads searching for that different and special view that could become a future
painting.
Recently, Philpott was awarded third place in the Fresh Paint
National Juried competition, which attracted over 100 artists from across the
United States and
Canada.
Visit Neil Philpott at his reception at LAWRENCE GALLERY SHERIDAN on Sunday,
November 7, from two o'clock to four o'clock in the afternoon.

As if she knew what Bon Appetit would report
about our region, Nancy Tipton chose to focus on food as the theme of her
new show at Lawrence Gallery Sheridan. Each year Bon Appétit scours the country
to find towns with the most inspired culinary culture. This year McMinnville,
Oregon was chosen as second in the nation for "America's Foodiest Town
[UTF-8?]2010â€! How exciting that Nancy Tipton's newest collection of oils and
watercolors include paintings of waitstaff and farmer's market fare that are
deliciously pleasing to the
eye!
Visit Nancy during her artist reception at LAWRENCE GALLERY SHERIDAN (just
eight miles west of America's second "foodiest town")on Sunday, the 7th of
November, from 2 o'clock to 4 o'clock in the afternoon.
