ARTWORKS COLLIDE IN VIBRANT NEW
SHOW
Collision
a collaboration of 17 artists, opens this
fall
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Collision, a raucous
and lively exhibition unfolding at the RISD Museum of Art this fall and opening
as a completed installation Nov. 12, is a collaboration of 17 visual artists.
Painter Jackie Saccoccio (RISD BFA '85) invited artists working in various
disciplines-including sculpture, painting, ceramics, and video-to participate
with her in the project. The resulting installation incorporates a
do-it-yourself mantra that resembles the making of improvisational music or
contemporary indie film.
Rather than offering works neatly tied together by one
curatorial force, the artists "self-curate," presenting associations they make
as they build the installation-adding to, overlapping, and bumping up against
each other's contributions. People will be able to see the artists at work
beginning Oct. 27. The completed exhibition opens Nov. 12 and runs through June
19, 2011.

SHOWCASING THE ROLE OF THE
ARTIST'S MODEL THROUGH
TIME
Changing Poses: The Artist's
Model
Since ancient times, models have been an essential tool for all
artists depicting the human figure. This November, the Rhode Island School of
Design Museum of Art opens a fascinating exhibition on the role of the artist's
model, demonstrating the range of bodies that have fueled artistic creativity
from the Renaissance to the present. The exhibition showcases more than 50 works
from the RISD Museum's esteemed collection of prints, drawings, and photographs,
including several recent acquisitions never before on view.
Organized by Crawford Alexander Mann III., the Museum's Andrew
W. Mellon Curatorial Fellow, Changing Poses: The Artist's Model runs from
November 12, 2010 to June 5,
2011.
