Classic as well as unique early prints by
Helen Levitt, the poet of the streets of New York, who captured the dance
of children and the elderly as they played out their daily dreams and
conversations, taken in the late 1930's and early 40's in New York City.
Rare vintage exhibition prints by 79 year old
Chinese photographer Fan Ho, who dramatically recorded life on the
streets of Hong Kong in the late 1950's and early'60's.
Philippe Halsman during the 1950's asked
the famous and the powerful to jump in front of his camera, resulting in funny
and unexpected images in the series he titled JUMPOLOGY. From Salvador
Dali to Jayne Mansfield to Jackie Gleason, we witness the loss of inhibition and
propriety and discover the true person behind the public
mask.
Eadweard Muybridge's 1887 sequential
Human and Animal Locomotion studies, including a cat trotting, an obese woman
rising, a man punching, and a horse jumping.
Rich black and white vintage prints by master
photographer Ray Metzker taken in Chicago in the 1950's and Philadelphia
in the 1960's. Metzker's strength comes from his dramatic use of light and
shadow combined with a deep tenderness for the common
man.
Our presentation of contemporary color
photography will
feature:
Bruce Wrighton will again be represented
by an installation of vintage and modern color prints from the mid-1980's,
revealing a uniquely American point of view. His just published first
monograph "BRUCE WRIGHTON: AT HOME" will be available.
Fred Herzog, being celebrated in Berlin
with a big show at CO Museum, will be represented in our stand as well.
>From the mid-1950's through today Herzog sensuously captured in vivid color the
urban world around
him.
Don't miss the terrific Peter
Bialobrzeski print from his series "Paradise Now" on exhibit on the
mezzanine level, among the finalists for this years BMW
prize.
AND NOT TO BE
MISSED:
A selection of Jessica Backhaus's recent
abstract and surreal images of reflections on the canals of Venice and Burano.
She combines a sense of color as vibrant as Monet with strange formations of
ripples and splashes reminiscent of Dali.
Jessica Backhaus will do a
booksigning at 6 pm Friday of her newest monograph "I Wanted to
See the World,"as well as her three previous books, at our STAND
B28.
