This year the MCA’s popular Primavera series comes of age as the annual exhibition celebrates its 18th anniversary. With a reputation for uncovering new talent in the visual arts, Primavera provides valuable exposure for emerging artists aged 35 years and under.

MAKING IT NEW: FOCUS ON CONTEMPORARY AUSTRALIAN ARTISTS

Making It New celebrates art in Australia today. Presenting a diverse selection of works by 18 established artists, the exhibition spans painting, installation, video, sculpture and new media.

MCA curator Glenn Barkley has selected artists whose work is anchored in a sense of tradition and ongoing engagement with political and social worlds. These artists are also pivotal figures within their own communities - whether they be social,

LOUISA BUFARDECI & ZON ITO

This exhibition is the fourth in a series of ‘international pairing’ projects, and presents the work of Australian artist Louisa Bufardeci alongside Japanese artist Zon Ito. Spanning sculpture and installation, wall drawings, digital prints and animation, the exhibition seeks to position Australian contemporary art within a wider, global dialogue.

Bufardeci draws upon statistical data, sourcing information from the public domain including the CIA Fact Book, the national census and opinion polls. She translates this information into colour charts, maps and architectural diagrams; and in doing so, draws playful attention to gaps, biases and inequalities...more info



 

MCA COLLECTION: NEW ACQUISITIONS

New Acquisitions 2009 showcases artworks acquired into the MCA’s permanent collection over the past 12 months. Selected by MCA Curators, the new acquisitions include recent works by some of Australia’s most exciting living artists.

Highlights of New Acquisitions 2009 include Benjamin Armstrong’s surreal glass and wax sculptures; satirical works on paper by Aleks Danko; Newell Harry’s playful assemblage featuring canvas, votive objects and fairy lights, and a sculptural diorama by Danie Mellor...more info
